Goal: Increase food security for Orange County’s older adults age 60+ by enrolling new participants in CalFresh. Establish new Commodity Supplemental Food Program and Senior Grocery distribution sites for food insecure older adults.

Quarterly Updates

Quarter 1
July – September 2017

  • Subcommittee identified potential new food distribution sites.
  • Subcommittee is currently finalizing collateral materials for CalFresh and a map of food distribution sites with locations and times.
  • CSFP (food box program) is currently on hold and cannot open new sites at this time.
  • There were 72 new senior CalFresh enrollments in July and August.

Quarter 2
October – December 2017

  • There were 182 new older adults age 60+ enrolled into CalFresh in Q1 and Q2, surpassing the initiative’s six month goal of 142 new enrollees.
  • Four new Commodity Supplemental Food Program and Senior Grocery food distribution sites were opened in Q1 and Q2, surpassing the six-month goal of 3 new sites opened.

  • Subcommittee is currently distributing updated bilingual materials for CalFresh.

Quarter 3
January – March 2018

  • There were 300 new older adults age 60+ enrolled into CalFresh since July 1. The subcommittee is on track to meet the 18-month goal of 425 enrollees.
  • Six new Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP/food box program) and Senior Grocery sites have been opened since July 1. The subcommittee is on target to meet the 18 month goal of eight new sites opened.

  • The subcommittee is currently distributing updated bilingual collateral materials for CalFresh and exploring the possibility of an interactive map of food distribution sites with locations and times.

Quarter 4
April – June 2018

  • There were 380 new adults over age 60 enrolled into CalFresh since July 1. The subcommittee is on track to meet the 18-month goal of 425 enrollees.
  • Six new Senior Grocery sites and eleven new Park-It Market food distribution sites have been opened since July 1, 2017. The subcommittee has surpassed the 18 month goal of opening eight new sites.
  • The subcommittee is working with the OC Food Access Coalition on an interactive map of food distribution sites with locations and times. The interactive map will be searchable by older adult specific resources.

Quarter 5
July – September 2018

  • There have been 466 new adults over age 60 enrolled into CalFresh since July 1, 2017. The subcommittee has surpassed the 18 month goal of 425 enrollees.
  • Six new Senior Grocery sites and thirteen new Park-It Market food distribution sites have been opened since July 1, 2017. The subcommittee has surpassed the 18 month goal of opening eight new sites.
  • The OC Food Help website is now live at http://ocfoodhelp.org. The website includes an interactive food map with all distribution opportunities and an online appointment system for CalFresh.
